We feel Americans should freely believe what they will, but when those beliefs harm or hinder the civil rights of fellow citizens, that becomes an issue.

Unfortunately, North Carolina voters turned their beliefs into actions that will hurt their fellow citizens when they voted in favor of Amendment 1 yesterday.

As we stated Tuesday, this means "marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state."

But the amendment doesn't just affect the LGBT community. The ban also means domestic violence protection for any unmarried victim is now at risk as well. (Weird, right?)
